Product Spotlight: Is that Alka-Seltzer? Fail.

Have you ever seen alka-seltzer placed in a cup of water? Watch this video, and see that within seconds the alka-seltzer dissolves.

These days everyone in our society is looking for the best, quickest, and easiest. Let’s face it, if you can have the best thing out there and it’s also the quickest and easiest, you’re going for it. The problem is when choosing the quickest and easiest, the best quality is not always an attribute. Sadly, what has occurred regarding HVAC condensate drain pans is that everyone chooses the quick and easy tablet verses the quality of a timed-release product.

Much like alka-seltzer, HVAC tablets placed in condensate pans begin to dissolve immediately. However, these tablets last a bit longer, but disappear within the first week or so. This might address the problem for the short-term, but who’s going to remember or want to revisit that drain 6 times a month? Besides, these tablets contain chlorine, which further corrodes the condensate pan and shortens the time until a repair or system replacement is needed. So instead of solving the problem associated with pan overflows, now these tablets have just added additional work and headaches.

But don’t fear, Timed-Release technology is your solution. The products listed below were the very first timed-release products developed for HVAC drain pans and evaporative coolers. The ingredients are suspended in a polymer strip, and as water flows through the product the ingredients are released. If no water is flowing through the product, then no ingredients are released. This doesn’t hold true for tablets. Tablets aren’t engineered to stop releasing ingredients whereas timed-release products are.

PanGuard, developed in 1985, is the FIRST timed-release technology for condensate drain pans. Over two years was spent in the initial development and testing, and improvements are still being made to keep PanGuard ahead of the pack, including a reformulation to make PanGuard a certified GREEN product.

Cooler Guard is the FIRST timed-release maintenance for evaporative coolers. Almost a year in development and two months of field test results combined to make the product effective against scale deposits.

So, what are you really costing yourself by choosing tablets? In 10 years, what will your pan look like by using a tablet? Are you really getting the quality protection you need to keep the drain pan free from yuck? Did you know the yuck in the pan is actually in the air that you breathe?

Are you ready to place money IN your pocket instead of always dishing it out? If so, give us a call and we can give you the timed-release treatment.

From the Field: Avoid the Umbrella

rihanna Pop singer Rihanna received some great news to spark her birthday celebration last week. The now 26-year-old found out that papers would soon be signed giving her a $10 million settlement, stemming from bad financial and real estate advice she received in 2009. At the heart of this matter was a $7 million home in Southern California – rotting from water and mold damage!

While Rihanna’s situation was caused by leaking balconies and faulty construction, the same thing could happen in any home or business due to overflows and clogs of the HVAC condensate drain pan.
This potential for water damage is largely unknown to building owners and tenants, as HVAC systems are only a concern when they aren’t functioning properly. But by this time, it could be too late.

For years the industry relied on water-soluble tablets to clean the pans of potential hazards. As demonstrated in Kristen’s blog , while these tablets are effective in the short-term, their chemical nature causes them to quickly dissipate. This leaves one to either grin and bear it or constantly perform HVAC maintenance. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

In 1985, Controlled Release Technologies invented PanGuard, the HVAC industry’s first timed-release drain pan treatment. PanGuard is guaranteed PG limited warranty to provide continuous, 24-hour protection for either 3 or 6 months, depending on size purchased, or it will be replaced for free. Find a tablet with that kind of offer!

So now you need to make a choice: Either make like Rihanna and get under your Umbrella ella ella eh eh eh, or protect your investment with PanGuard today!

If you have a similar water damage horror story, or a success story using PanGuard, we’d love to hear about it. Please leave your comments in the section below.
