What Is Condensation?

How many of us have went out of our way to shop for a glass, tumbler, or cup that will not “sweat”. There is nothing I dislike more than grabbing a cup with water droplets! These water droplets/sweat are also known as condensation.

Condensation can be in many more places than just our favorite tumbler. One major place of concern of condensation is in the HVAC System.

Condensation occurs when water vapor in the air comes into contact with something cool. Molecules slow down and get closer together & the gaseous water vapors turn back into liquid water drops (condensation). Seems kind of harmless on our cups but in an HVAC System this can cause so much damage and cost a great deal of money.

Years ago, Lynn Burkhart- President of CRT, visited a very prestigious resort in Florida. An esteemed guest had a not-so-pleasant experience in the resort.  There was a leak on the floor above, this leak damaged several expensive belongings of said guest. Can you imagine the frustration of the guest and embarrassment of the resort?

Do you know how this leak occurred? That’s right. Condensation from the HVAC’s drain pans had overflowed and leaked into the room, from the ceiling. Yikes! There is never a good reason for water to emit from the AC Unit. That is a true sign that the unit needs some TLC (Tender Loving Care). Whether it’s maintenance, repairing, or replacing.

PM (Preventative Maintenance) is important to the health of your HVAC system. A checkup once or twice a year will help to detect & prevent an issue before it occurs.

You can also be proactive by providing a time-released drain pan treatment PanGuard (Certified Green) or Algae Guard (EPA Registered) to keep your drain clean & free from over flows.

We’d love to hear any condensation stories you have. Please give us a call, comment, or simply shoot us an email. We look forward to chatting with you.

Client Story! First Time Installing Pancrete

Have you ever had a product do something unexpected? That’s what happened to one of our clients! Shandi, our sales manager, talked to him last week and he told her what happened the first time he installed Pancrete. Read Shandi’s blog post to find out!

I spoke with one of our valued clients today, as he says that they are interested in our newest product, Ceramic Shield (a chiller resurfacer). They have had much success with Pancrete and V570 (a few of our drain pan resurfacers) for the past couple of years.

He is a contractor in California that does large Pancrete/ V570 applications. They like the fact that it sets up really quick and to tell his funny story, he learned this the hard way. On his very first application, he did not realize how fast the product would set up, or maybe he did not believe me. He mixed the product and began very slowly, but then the product started heating up and setting up in the containers. Since then, he has done several successful jobs using Pancrete and V570. We laughed about it, but on another note, we manufacture super easy, DIY products for “ALMOST” anyone to apply, with success.

(As you can see below, Pancrete can easily turn a rusty pan into a bright, fresh new one!)

Pancrete Job Before Pancrete Job After

Now, as we have introduced our new product, Ceramic Shield, he is interested to know how it will bring his company more business, just as Pancrete has. Maybe we’ll be able to get some before and after images of the tube sheets and end caps from the chiller that he is going to test our product on!

Stay tuned!

Be Inspired: TROSA’s Two-Year Program Makes a Difference

With all the negative things going on in the world, it’s always awesome to hear of “light in a dark world.” Every year, we donate our products to an awesome program called TROSA

TROSA is a comprehensive two-year residential substance abuse recovery program in Durham, N.C. They accept substance abusers with one condition: they must have a strong desire to change their lives. TROSA’s program includes vocational training, education, counseling, mentoring, leadership training and continuing care.

The best news of all: the TROSA formula works. TROSA graduates have gone on to live healthy, productive lives as members of their communities and families.

What is even more awesome about this program is that it is available at no cost to the person receiving treatment. TROSA’s funding comes from three primary sources: revenue-generating businesses which provide vocational training for residents; donations from individuals, companies, and foundations; and modest government support.

Controlled Release Technologies is so thankful and humbled by the fact that we have been able to support TROSA in some way. The opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life should not be passed by. To be so close to a place that changes lives is humbling. North Carolina surely has a way of helping and making a difference.

Here is just one success story out of many.

Alan Seawell:

Over 14 years: that’s how long Alan has been at TROSA. He came as a young man whose family had tried everything to help him beat his addiction. He was divorced, the father of a young son, and facing a possible five-year prison sentence when he made the commitment to accept TROSA’s help and change his life.

Today when Alan looks around that same campus he sees where he made his mark on TROSA. Today, Alan is TROSA’s Construction Manager and has supervised the construction of 35 housing units, two 75- person dormitories, a multipurpose gymnasium and significant renovation of offices and graduate housing.

While Alan has left his mark, literally, on the campus, more importantly he’s left his mark in the lives of the residents who have been trained in the construction department. Alan’s commitment to his own recovery is an important example to the men who train as masons, drywall technicians, or painters in his department.

“I love being a mentor, teaching guys new things, giving them an opportunity to take pride in making something real.”

Whats in a name? That which we call drip pan treatment.

Much like the famous Shakespeare love story of Romeo and Juliet. The story of the two star-crossed lovers are nothing like the love you may possibly have for Algae Guard – drip pan treatment. There is no struggle or tragedy when it comes to our time released drip pan treatment- Algae Guard.

However, there may be a struggle if you are using tablets for your drip pan instead of a time released product such as Algae Guard. Tablets will actually help to deteriorate your drip pan. That is a tragedy!

You don’t want some tragic love story between your drip pans and the products you use, do you? You want the two things to compliment each other, right?
Look no further. Here is a bit of info about Algae Guard.

Algae Guard is a time-released drip pan treatment that keeps the pan clean & free from overflows. Time-released is a process that only allows the ingredients to be released as water flows through the product. Algae Guard is EPA registered and contains a biocide to be effective against mold, mildew, algae, and fungus.
