New Product: Resurface Chiller Tube Sheets w/ Ceramic Shield

Have you ever had something go wrong with your car?

I remember when the transmission in my truck started to go out. Man, was I upset. I thought it was the end of the world! I knew it was going to cost an arm and a leg, but instead of buying a whole new truck, I just fixed my transmission! It was much cheaper and much smarter.

Well, have you ever had to replace a chiller unit?

That can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $40,000! Yikes! But just as with cars, there’s another solution: replacing a part of it, instead of buying a whole new unit.

What causes a chiller barrel to fail?

One common cause is corrosion and erosion from high water velocity, dirt and sand particles. Chiller barrels have tube sheets on their end that are covered by an end cap. These tube sheets (like the one on the left with all the holes) can get super nasty from all the dirt and water hitting them. Nobody wants to spend thousands of dollars replacing a tube sheet when it’s much easier and cheaper to resurface it. There are plenty of tube sheet coating products on the market, but we’ve got something new!

What is it? Ceramic Shield.

Ceramic Shield is a product that resurfaces chiller barrel tube sheets and end caps. With its hard ceramic quality, this epoxy coating has a high corrosion resistance and we’ve tested it in our lab under 5 times the normal water velocity of most chillers. It’s stronger than steel and with its hard ceramic coating, you can give years back to your unit!

Is it easy to apply?

Absolutely. There is no need to fly in a technician with Ceramic Shield, because you can do the work yourself. All you need to do is remove the end cap, cork all the holes on the tube sheet, and sandblast the area. Then use a product like our Clean Bond to prevent flash rusting and provide a solid bonding surface for Ceramic Shield. Mix Ceramic Shield according to the instructions, then trowel it on, and let it cure for 36-48 hours. You only need one coat! After the product has cured, you can remove the corks, replace the end cap and put the unit back into service. The whole process should take a maximum of two days. That’s bang for your customers’ buck.

Why should I use it?

This is a great way to gain new business for your company, because many contractors don’t do work on chiller units. But with this easy-to-apply, one-coat product, why not? You can gain new business, solve a problem for your customers (who don’t want to spend thousands on new chiller units), and increase your profits.

What sets Ceramic Shield above the competition?

First, it’s a one-coat application, unlike many of our two-coat competitors. This can cut time and labor in half. It’s also less expensive and you can install it yourself without having to bring in a technician. That cuts out flight costs, hotel stays and labor that you might otherwise pay for.
