Social Media Trends: “I’ve Got 99 Problems, But a Blog Ain’t One”

Recently, Jon Dunagin, Marketing Director of CRT, and I attended a webinar hosted by the US Small Business Administration. Titled, “Helping You Get Started,” the webinar suggested tips for new and upcoming bloggers, as well as a refresher for those of us whom are already blogging.

Because a lot of bloggers experience blogger’s block, ideas were shared for topics you could potentially blog about. This included topics such as marketing campaigns, introducing your staff, interviewing an industry expert within your company, and posting solutions to problems one may be having within an industry. A thorough list of blogging ideas was provided, and can be viewed at http://www.sba.gov/community/blogs/never-run-out-blog-topic-ideas-here-are-36

Blogging is about keeping people “in the know.” You want your readers to know about upcoming events, tips, customer feedback, and current company news. However, it is never good to promote or sell directly through your blogs, and that is something all bloggers must try to stay away from. Blogging isn’t about selling a product, it is about selling your company as a whole, and then going from there.

For more ideas and information, I wanted to give you guys the chance to attend the same, informative webinar we had the pleasure of attending! You can view that webinar by clicking below, and if you have any suggestions on blogging and what to blog about, please leave a comment.

Social Media Trends: Stress It, Don’t Stress Over It

Social media is often discouraging. It can stress you out when you are not getting the feedback you expected, or not giving yourself enough time for social media in the first place. Managing and organizing yourself is key to being successful. Here are a few tips that can help make your stress a think of the past.

1. Self-Discipline

Self-discipline is controlling what you do, as well as how and when you do it. In order to meet goals, and to account for your productivity in the work place, requires self-discipline. Often, time management comes into play. Make sure you are giving yourself enough time to manage your social media effectively. Don’t rush through it at last minute! Rushing though will only cost you more time later.

2. Stay Motivated

Staying motivated is key for anything you set out to do. We all know offices are not the most quiet place, and that things are forever changing; however, wasting time on things that are not helping reach your goals will make it hard to achieve success. Focus on what you have already accomplished rather than what you still have left. This will help with your stress level as well as your motivation. It is highly important to not let things stand in the way of your own progress.

3. Goals, Goals, Goals

You can’t make anything happen without goals. You may have heard the old saying, “If you don’t know where you’re going, you’re unlikely to get there.” Figure out your target audience, or what results you are looking for, and make them your goal and go for it. Focus on that goal until you have reached the desired results.

If you constantly focus on increasing your social footprint, and stress its importance, you can achieve great results. Just don’t let the stress of creating it turn you off. Always stay disciplined, motivated and have goals set to achieve. If you have any ideas for reducing stress and improving results, pertaining to social media or just the workplace environment itself, please feel free to comment in the section below.

Social Media Trends: Catchy Title Goes Here

Social media is not meant to be hard, though it can be if you are not doing it right! Earlier this month I attended a social media conference offered by SkillPath Seminars. I came back with tons of useful information and tools, along with a more prepared and less overwhelmed outlook.

One of the many things I learned at the conference was that your main focus does not need to be all about your product all of the time. You actually want to push yourself as a person, and less of your product. Customers and potential customers like to know you are real, just as they are real. When posting a comment or tweeting, or sharing anything for that matter, you want to choose things you find valuable. If you find it valuable, they more than likely will as well. Try to have a little fun; it may brighten someone’s day.

Secondly, start searching now! There are tons of sites out there to help you keep up with what’s being said on your threads, and help you connect with common industries or similar interests. Also there are sites you can use to grade your site to ensure that it is benefitting you, as well as the person on the other end. Some examples are twilert.com, addictomatic.com, socialmention.com, and marketinggrader.com. Take a look at those, then get your searching cap on and see what you can discover for yourself.

Finally, there are things you should know about blogging. In today’s society most people stay on the go, so if they do take a look at your blog it’s only going to be for a few seconds. When blogging, you want to put your conclusion in the first few sentences and always use catchy headlines. Folks usually only read the first few lines, and then skim through the rest. If your headline is catchy and you’re to the point, they might read through the whole thing. So make your point, and make it quick!

I hope you guys found the tools and ideas I have learned beneficial, because I most certainly did. I am always opened to new ideas! If you know something about social media you would like to share, leave a comment in the section below. After all, you can never learn enough when it comes to SOCIAL MEDIA!
